My husband has off on Chanukah and we're thinking of taking a day trip (not overnight) together. We probably have to stay within 2 hours of the NY metropolitan area.
Any ideas?

Would be a great idea but we can't stay anywhere overnight.
We've gone to a lot of places already and are looking for something new.

Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated Very Happy

Hershey Park is 3 hours from NY. It is open 5 - 9 this time of year. Mostly only children and slow rides are open but it is a fun place to hang out for the day.

We went there Thanksgiving (its our 4th year) and its a lot of fun.

(There are a lot of lights and holiday music)

I don't know if we'll enjoy an amusement park. My husband is not so enthusiastic about rides.
Thanks for the idea though! Very Happy

Oh well, it was worth a try (the rides open are more like the carousel, trains, and cars. There are no fast rides open because the they run using hydralocs and those can freeze). Have fun with whatever you do.

Honestly, there is nothing like walking the streets in Manhattan, either Central Park (might be a little cold but it's interesting all times of year), or 5th Avenue, Rockefeller Center, Saks windows, there is so much to do in the City, have lunch and just walk up and down a main avenue there, you can walk into any store you want with no time constraints. Or go ice skating...

That could be fun, but we'll enjoy it more if we have a specific destination in mind. My husband likes ice skating but I don't so that won't work.
Great idea, though, thanks! Very Happy

NYC is the best during this season. Check out the window displays:
http://gonyc.about.com/od/chri.....s.htm

Of course Rockefeller center is nice too, even if you dont skate!
Perhaps Cirque du soleil show? Check out below link :

The World's Largest Menorah - Every night of Chanukah, at Fifth Avenue and 59th Street

Chanukah on Ice in Central Park's Trump Wollman Rink on 12/23/08

Bronx zoo has some nice and interesting entertainment for holiday season:

Hope these ideas are helpful!

Enjoy!

Good ideas, but...
We saw the window display last year.
I don't feel comfortable going to the Cirque du Soleil show with my husband.
We've been to the Bronx Zoo recently.

But maybe we'll end up doing it anyway.
Thanks so much Very Happy
Anyone else?

GO to a ski lodge! There are many in the area.
You could ski or go snow tubing.
Bring a thermos with hot cocoa, and another with soup...... Smile

That's a nice idea...in a ski lodge you actually get a room?

It depends upon the place. Generally there is like a big cabin with tables, but many are part of a resort and also have rooms that you could rent.

As of now we're leaning towards the walk-through-Manhattan ideas, but any suggestions are still more than welcome Very Happy

we recently spent the day together at the liberty science center! between the 3d show, the imax (we went to the alps and had the entire theater to ourselves!), and the exhibits, it was really a great day!
We also rented an indoor tennis court nearby which was also fun.
