In my family we use candles. In dh's, if it's possible, oil. Dh buys these ready made little oil stuff.

we use either ready made olive oil filled things, or olive oil. But we dont press the olive oil ourselves - we buy it ready made. This year no ready made ones, so regular olive oil.

Why would anyone use non-olive oil?
Is there any hiddur in that vs candles?

Olive oil is the hiddur.
Actually, I was going to comment before I saw your post. So far 100% use olive oil. But why? On all kinds of other threads people are claiming you can do the minimum, it's not halacha to do x, they can find a loophole or a yesh omrim to make life easier, you don't have to be machmir or mehader. I guess that's because there they have to make more of an effort. This is only a money issue so no problem with doing the mitzva lemehadrin.
Anyone only light one candle each night?
PS This wasn't the point of the poll - I never thought of this point before posting, unlike some of my nasty threads to prove a point . This time it was purely innocent.
Ah - just before pressing submit I realised you were asking why anyone would use soya oil. I think it is more of a hiddur than candles because at least it's oil, but not sure.

I guess I'll ask. To me, once you're messing around with oil, you might as well use the best!
(I answered for my husband. I think my 4 year old is going to light this year, but he'll be lighting candles.)
