There are many variations of this salad, but here's what I do:
-romaine lettuce or spinach
-avacado
-strawberries
-purple onion
-candied almonds (heat up/melt white sugar in a small pan and gently toast/mix in the lamonds so they become coated in the melted sugar. spread them out so they won't clump, and let dry.)
-dressing: veggie oil, ketchup, brown sugar

Don't you just want to make guacamole? Mashed avoc. with some lemon, mayo, the purple onion, and some tomatoes if you like them.

My MIL makes a great salad - actually called a platter. You are supposed to serve it on a platter but obviouly you can do whatever you want.
The dressing needs to be made in advance and it keeps really well in the fridge for a couple weeks - and tastes great on its own too.
Dressing:
1/2 C mayo
1/2 C brown sugar
2 tsp mustard powder
1/2 C white vinegar
1 C oil (I do half oil, half water)
2 tsp salt
1/2 avocado
Blend all ingredients together.
Platter:
Layer sliced tomatoes, diced red onion and sliced avocado and drizzle dressing on right before serving.
We did this as a started for my brother's Bar Mitzvah. We bought wide plastic glasses on a stem and cut the veggies smaller, then broke a breadstick into 2 uneven pieces and put them in on the side. It was very striking.

mmm...sounds good! my sister who's a chips fanatic would probably love that one!
Reminds me of the tilapia fish recipe I made last week....covered in salsa, crushed tortilla chips and cheese! (though I hadn't made it in a year and couldn't find the recipe so I guessed!) yummm

I never heard of this combo with dressing, what does it taste like, and does it go well with this salad?
