I made a hearty mushroom barley soup for the pre fast meal but I just tried it and it is way too spicy. I followed to recipe exactly it called for 1/2 tsp black pepper!
please share if you have any ideas of how I can get rid of the spiceness

I can't imagine 1/2 teaspoon black pepper being too spicy, as we are an at-least-two-tablespoons-cayenne pepper family, but you can pour out just liquid and add more water (and salt) to dilute it.

Divide the soup in half. Freeze one half and with the 2nd half, add more water, barley etc, and NO SPICES

Add a little milk or cream, that will cut the spice/salt and add a little heartiness as well.
