I also thought Noam when I first saw the post title. It's a nice sounding name, too!

Another vote for Noam from the mother of Noam, a sweet, tranquil, pleasant boy from birth.

whaddayamean Hebraicized version of Chanan? Chanan IS Hebrew! As are Elchanan, Chananel and Chananya. Chen means "charm" "grace" or "favor" (ut'nenu lechen, lechessed ulerachamim etc.), not "charming", and Noam means "pleasantness". Nouns, not adjectives. "Naim" means pleasant and is a masculine name in both Hebrew and Arabic.

Chen is also Rashei Tevot for Chayyim nachman, as in the poet Bialik, conventionally called "Chen Bialik".

Chen for a boy is a very modern Israeli name (understand, anything more recent than WWII is "modern" in my book), Noam modern Israeli but not quite as radical as Chen, and Chanan & Co. won't make the traditional, right-wing branch of the family roll their eyes or have conniption fits.

I love ALL those names.

I think what she means is that Chen is more modern Hebrew than Chanan, Chananya, or Elchanan - it's not originally a name, but a word that Israelis have transformed into a name.

Interestingly enough, I knew a girl named Chen.

In my experience, Chen is a girls' name.

There is also Shalev, which means serene, peaceful. Very Israeli though...
