for those who are interested...hei Teves was the day 40,000 books were returned to the Lubavitch Library..it is a chag in Chabad.

Here is a NYT article after the trial 1987

here is an excerpt from a talk on the significance of the day...

Quote:
However, we must say that the reason for theseproblems was only to bring a greater level of ascent. The only reason for the troubling and uncertainsituation was to accomplish greater things many timesover, in the area of spreading Yiddishkeit.

To reach the greater heights there had to beopposition presented in the guise of an attack! Whatwas said? That Agudas Chassidei Chabad are notactive; and we are not using the manuscripts andstudying the books and the words of the living G-d (Chassidus); and that the activities of spreadingYiddishkeit to the outside world are not being done.

These arguments were presented to provide a basisupon which the question could be posed, "To whom do these things belong?"Really nothing was lacking but the "polishing of thebuttons." (the Rebbe often used the metaphor for the fact we are in the Days of Moshiach by saying all we have left to do for the complete geulah is to 'polish the buttons.' The question he is addressing here is, if all we have to do is polish the buttons, why did we have this controversy?) Remember, buttons only connect the sidesof the garment − the right and left sides would beapart without the buttons. The buttons unify two halves. (By Jewish custom right is placed over left). The right helps the left and together they protect thebody. But the buttons had only to be polished. Whyall these problems?

The answer is that we must do even more! We must be filled with great joy which bursts all limitationsand nullifies all restrictions and measures. The joymust infuse our action in all that we do.(Sicha of 5 Teves 5747 − 1987)The Lubavitcher Rebbe<
