Baruch Dayan Haemes.
Does anyone here know if the family needs anything? Help with the children, meals, etc?

if you listen to the "Kol M'vaser" hotline, they supposedly have a correspondent on the scene that said the rabanim paskened that they can be mechalel shabbos and had volunteers come down on shabbos to help with the search. at 10:30 am the body washed up 900 feet from the hotel.
They are still searching for the son in law.
really sad story, we can keep davening for Avraham Elimelech ben Devora

so sad. my heart goes out to them.
what a tragedy
Even though they found the FIL I just keep on hoping they'll find the DH alive & healthy, even though I know the chances are so slight.

Unfortunately, I don't think they will ever know.
But there have been a lot of drownings in Ontario lakes recently, and I heard on the radio, police talking about how people don't use basic safety features like lifejackets. I'm not CHVS saying that this was what happened in the situation. But they were saying in general it should be a basic thing, like wearing a seatbelt in a car.The police were also explaining how swimmers get entangled in seaweed and other scenarios.
It's very scary.

My husband just told me some things.
First of all, a New York state strooper said that if one is wearing a lifejacket, it's possible to find the missing person in the river 7-10 days after, still alive.
Once hearing this piece of information, Rav Miller paskened that anyone who is in cottage country for shabbos, and has a boat, can drive their boat in a trailer to North Bay (where they went missing) on shabbos and search the river. A few of DH's friends did this, after minyan on shabbos, they drove in their car, with their boat attached and searched the river. Also, one of these volunteers, because he was there on shabbos, was able to identify the body right away when it was found by police.

A couple of guys in DH's office used their vacation days to go search. I find that very commendable!

There is no news. But its getting very very serious now (not that it wasn't before) because after a certain amount of time a body will sink and they will never find it. They need to find it while it's floating.
