Statue of Liberty
Early 1900's New York -- "newsies" style, shirtwaists and poofy buns
Wall St. -- suits and briefcases
Fashionable New York -- big, funky sunglasses, trendy clothes (not sure how it would scream "NY" specifically, though)

and of course...
I
NY

t-shirts!

one year we all went as NYC tourists--I Heart NYC tee-shirts, slouch socks, fanny packs, reebok sneakers, baseball caps, cameras around our necks, and shopping bags from the M&M store/J&R/century 21/other NYC stores. Smile
- just take the subway to 34th or 42nd and go to one of the tourist shops and get lots of stuff Smile

other ideas:
- someone could go as a big apple (there are apple costumes)
the statue of liberty idea someone mentioned is cool Smile

My husband and I did this last year- see if this is helpful to you- we put in a bagel, a bag of deli chips, a knish, and an apple inside an I Heart NY bag.

When 2 hicks get married, and both are still in school,
Where to live is mostly based on the proximity rule
So a _____ guy and ______ girl settled in the 'hood
A bit overwhelmed, but davened it'd be good
While they missed the calmness of living out of town,
They found the NY symphony of honking sometimes calmed them down
With 10 shuls on the block and everything at their fingertips
And pizza stores galore, the began to lick their lips
Living in the big APPLE has all that- and more!
Including buying a fresh NY BAGEL from the bagel store
They'd be first to admit, NY has many a yummy treat,
Like the old time NY DELI (chips) where folks of all sort do eat
And another food NY is famous for the good 'ole POTATO KNISH
Though anyone would admit- it isn't quite nutrish(ious)
One thing they say about NY, which we have found untrue
Is that people here are not nice and helpful- but... what about you?
You, our dear friends, have welcomed us with open arms,
And made us feel comfortable in our home away from the farms
So on this Yom Tov of celebrating Hashem's Hashgacha,
We thank Him for letting us meet your Mishpacha
And though we've taken a liking for good ole NYC,
We daven that next year, Yerushalayim Habenuya is our destined place to be!
