I want to do a theme this yr for our purim seudah - I am doing AROUND THE WORLD.
I have so far some foods from diff countries/areas
examples: fried chicken - USA, general tso chicken - CHINA, shwarma - ISRAEL.....I am in desperate need of 2 things......
1. I need side dish ideas - but not something like lo mein, cous cous, etc, I need veggies ideas, but to tie them into my theme.
2. I need to make some sort of sweet brisket or sweet and sour corned beef but I need it to tie into the theme too....
HELLLPPP!!!!
TIA

I don't know if Hawaii counts as a separate 'country' but they use a lot of sweet and sour type of recipes for their meat, especially with pineapple.
I've also heard of swedish meatballs - I don't know if these are sweet but maybe you could use a pun of Swedish/sweetish meat?
Good luck, it sounds like a really cute theme!

Hawaiian fruit or vegetable skewers (grilled marinated vegetable skewers with pineapple chunks mixed in)
Mexican salad (avocado, corn, tomatoes, scallions, black beans, lime juice, olive oil, salt and pepper)
Italian vegetables (zucchini, yellow squash, baby carrots, mushrooms, red onion, grape tomatoes roasted in homemade Italian dressing)
or Italian zucchini (sauteed with olive oil, onions, garlic, Italian seasonings, salt and pepper)

I would also do something hawaiin with the meat -
duck sauce or honey and pineapples and soysauce and garlic - or on skewers
go mexican - anything with avocado and cilantro
or spanish rice - wich is basically sauted onions garlic and peppers, rice and then add marinara sauce.
a french roast
potatoes - any ind are irish
"ice" cream - from alaska
dessert - something called baked alaska
or dessert - pavlova - it has russian/new zeland
chili - haha - from chili
turkey!
new Dheli - make a deli roll
west orange nj - s/t with an orange
mandarine oranges
"swiss" chocolate - or pretend its actually from there

I did "mi Hodu ad-Kush" theme last year, most of which went well.
http://imamother.com/forum/vie.....rt=80
(It's mid-way on the first page).
This year, I may stick to it with some modification.
Or I might do Persian menu with gondi, turnip pickles, gosht, koko sabji, chelo or pilau, something with apricot or baked quince.

You can browse by cuisine on http://JoyofKosher.com - choose meat, then different cuisines and even vegetable for more ideas.
Also, you can do Corned Beef and Cabbage for Irish, Pareve Caesar Salad or Roasted Fennel or Roasted Artichokes/Antipasto for Italian or Taco Salad, Black Beans and Corn or Sauteed Peppers and Onions for Mexican, Morrocan Beets with cumin and mint, Haricot Verts for French.
