When it overwhelms me
And I cannot write no more
I cannot write no more

My voice is suffocating
Gagging on my own words
Unable to articulate my thoughts

It is agonizing to realize
When the words of mine
Don't comply with me

Inside I'm torn apart
Wanting and yearning to feel
The shuddering release of my emotions

Waiting for some kinda explosion
To finally get there
And see my heart sketched in ink

This time it all overwhelms me
And I cannot write no more
I cannot write no more.

all these files
piled around my desk
begging to be typed
needing to be emailed

pause
the phone rings

all these files
all in stacks
must be filed
filing cabinets are full

pause
the phone rings

all these files
need to reviewed
must be read
and then approved

pause
the phone rings

all these files
day after day
week after week
no break

pause
except for that phone
ringing off the hook

"hello, may I help you?"

Op here. I like your poem. Again, the flow and choice of words have flow and rhythm. But question, does it have any connection to my original poem? Did you understand the message?

Debra, I don't think Robynm's poem was meant to be connected to yours. I know I understood your poem without a problem, and I really like the way you portray the feeling of frustration when a person cannot express themselves in writing. When I'm overwhelmed, I also need to sit down and write. It helps a lot.

Yes, writing helps a lot. It is one of my most effective tools when I'm stressed. But even more stressful is when I'm dying to write to alleviate my pen, and it just doesn't work! There is nothing else for me then, and I turned to good non jewish rocking music....La la.

Debra,
what worlds best mom wrote is true. I just took ur title and wrote my own poem. I tried to write something light. and also something that was overwhelming me at that second. could you tell I was at work.

your poem gave me a strong emotion of being NUMB.

Sunshine, beautiful poem. But what makes you think that denying the release of your emotions makes you strong? Why do you deny yourself the luxury of crying? It is good for you.

Robynm, yes, I can tell you were at work!
About being numb, you got a point there.
