I've got a girl's name all picked out, but having a lot of trouble with coming up with a boy's name. We usually name two names. Which of these names do you like best, and can you think of a name (not from the list) that goes nicely with it?

Natan
Amir
Shai
Yishai
Goel
Yigal
Ro'I
Erez

Of the list, I like Natan, Yishai and Ro'I best.

I have a cousin named David (pronounced "Dah-veed") Ro'e, who goes by David professionally, and by Ro'e among friends and family.

My opinion:

Natan Today Matan goes better for some reason. Easy to match with another name.
Amir no good name to go with it
Shai Easy to match another name.
Yishai Easy to match another name.
Goel NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Yigal Not really used anymore. You need to wait until it becomes modern again.
Ro'I Eh, even though everyone uses it including my nephew
Erez "Eh" no good name to go with it

I think Yigal Amir changed its luck. I doubt it'll make a comeback, at least in Israel.

Where did you hear Goel - sounds dreadful...

Natan and Yishai are biblical if that makes a difference to you, the rest are modern (or on their way out - does anyone call Amir or Erez any more?)

I just realized you have both names in your list - so you could call him Yigal Amir (or maybe not...)

This. Yigal - obvious bad association. Goel - pretty bad in of itself, and furthermore, reminds me of another famous persona, Goel Ratzon (the Israeli cult leader with 30 wives).

Amir - haven't heard lately. Erez is lovely and it is considered a classic, still given today, although not so common that there are five in a class. The other names are also nice.

Natan, Yishai, Roi.

IMHO, Shai is not a good name for a child in the US or with English speaking relatives.
