Can anyone give me a review on a bike within that range (preferably an 18 inch) that's decent quality and won't fall apart right away? I decided on a bike already, but the reviews seem to be awful.

I found a bike with good reviews, but it's without training wheels (though cheaper than the others). Does it pay to purchase such a bike and add training wheels?

Please help me out here.

You didnt say girls or boys.

A lot of 18" don't come with training wheels any more so you might have to get your own or bike riding lessons. 16" still come with training wheels I think.

This is something I recently heard from a professional bike expert (the kind who works on athletes bikes) - cheap & expensive bikes are only very different as far as the weight to lift it, otherwise if you pay someone for assembly who knows what they are doing well, your cheapest walmart or target bike is in excellent riding condition, that and dont leave it out in the rain.

I got a good strong 16 inch bike-my ds is same age as yours, with training wheels in the local jewish store. You can always get a strudy bike and add training wheels because many times the training wheels that come with it are junky.

Oops, boys bike.

He's tall for his age and a 16 inch was a bit too small for him. The local Jewish toy store sold a bike for 100 bucks. That's a lot of money for a junky bike.
