Cashews and almonds are both tree nuts but it's possible to be allergic to some tree nuts and not others. The recommendation is for anyone who's allergic to peanuts or any tree nuts to avoid all pn/tn due to risk of cross contamination. My dd is allergic to peanuts but tests negative to tree nuts and recently had a very severe reaction when dh ate almonds then kissed her. She had to spend 2 days in the hospital and was on steroids for a while.
