for boys I like soft sounding names like aviel, yonah, ariel
for girls I like shalva, atara, ariella, aliyana

I generally dislike names with a "ch" sound in them...very soft names with vowels, Ls and Rs are nice to me..
I can relate, to an extent. However in the Israeli pronunciation, which we use, the R is almost as gutteral as the CH. For instance, I like the name Rochel much more in the American pronunciation. In any case, in my world we don't choose names according to sound. We choose whom we want to name after and eventually get used to the sound, which I did with Rrrivky (gutteral R).

girls: meira (got to use it! yay!), shalva, avigayil (can't use cuz MIL's name), chaviva, hadassah, menucha, odelia (DH would never let!), rachel (pronounced the israeli way, rah-chEL), tikva, zahava

boys: Doniel (can't use cuz our last name is too similar), Avigdor, Dov, Dovid, Ephraim (can't use cuz it's my father's name), Gedalia, Meir, Mordechai, Ovadia, Saadia (I'll never get a choice though, cuz DH feels our boys should be named after gedolim. I've put my foot down so far on his #1 choice, Alter Chanoch Henach....)

Well,
Avigdor - rav Avigdor Miller
Meir - Rabi Meir Ba'al Ha'nes, Rabi Meir from the gemora
Ovadia - A novi! And Rav Ovadia Yosef
Saadia - Rav Saadia Gaon

Just choose a name you like and then find a gadol, it's very easy!

I wish! it needs to be a gadol with whom DH feels a connection. like the roshei yeshiva of his yeshiva, or someone whose works he has spent a lot of time learning.

I know a little boy with that name who goes by henoch, and it is adorable. (It also helps that they live in queens and there are lots of little boys around with that name)
