I live in brooklyn and can not afford to buy brand new toys for my son.
does anyone know where I can get second hand toys for free or for a fee such as a kitchen center, activity tables..etc.

I personally think that whatever can be washed/ drenched in bleach is totally fine to be used second hand.

There is a store in Williamsburg
http://www.flyingsquirrelbaby.com/store/
Also, if you are ever in Lakewood, check out their flea market. We used to go once a year and get great stuff, but it's only worthwhile if you go early. It's on Sunday mornings in the spring/summer
Also, try craigslist. I get great stuff there. I just got the bassinet I wanted that was $150 for $50 and it was barely used. They have tons of kids toys, just wash well.

You can often find great stuff for free or very cheap on craigslist.

I have gotten some great toys in beautiful condition from freecycle, a yahoo group for stuff people want to give away. It's a bit of a pain because you have to keep sifting through emails and much of the time someone else gets to the good things first, but I got 2 giveaways that netted enough toys that I needed nothing else for DD's first year and a half. Almost time to start looking for bigger-kid toys now! I try to look for offers from classy neighborhoods...

See freecycle.org to find a local group
