'Overweight' Suitcase at Airport Contains 487,000 Pounds

(IsraelNN.com) Authorities at Ben Gurion International Airport have discovered suitcases containing 487,500 pounds ($958,810). The law allows travelers to bring only several thousands of dollars without issuing a report. The law is intended to prevent laundering of money.

The traveler was brought to a court in nearby Ramle, where he was freed on bail.

It is talking about that the guy had 487,000 pounds (money) worth of merchandise in his suitcase.
Now that is a little bit odd. I saw this on arutz sheva but it never said why, though I am wondering why.

Was the money British pounds, if it was then I'am wondering why it has not been reported in the British press. At the end of the day US Dollars are worth more then GB £s.

I am not sure why you never heard of it yet unless it is not british pounds. What other country works with pounds? In american dollars it comes out to $958,810.

It sure is a lot of money you could buy I nice house with a garden without getting a morgage with that and a nice car plus a holiday. Wonder what he was doing with all that money and were he was heading. More to the point wonder were he got the money from, who wants to bet that it is illegal. After all most people do not go walking around with that money in their suitcase.

I thought it was talking about merchandise not cash in his baggage. I don't think the guy was that crazy to put cash, it would have weighed a whole lot.
