I never heard of it not being healthy till today... Instead of dominating the recipe with comments about it's health I decided to start a new thread with the question to hear what people thing and why?

I was always told it's healthy.

Here is the thread for those who are curious: http://imamother.com/forum/vie.....ousse

I didn't say it wasn;t healthy. It's not healthy for everyone.

Some are allergic to it.

From what I understand fermented soy is very healthy but regular is not so simple. It can mimic estrogen, perhaps in a good way, but perhaps not. One should do one's own research and consult a competent health professional....

of course if someone is allergic to soy it's not healthy for them!
So then what was your point? Also several people said it's not healthy.

Phytoestrogens in soy can mimic the hormone estrogen which so heavy soy use has been linked to cancer. I am fine with ig in moderation but don't think drinking soy milk and eating tofu daily while snacking on edamame is advisable.

This. When people think of Asians who eat a lot of soy, they don't realize it is often fermented soy. Big difference there.

I'm not so into soy and I don't know too much about it. I did once hear that it's questionable.

You can google "is soy healthy" and it will come up with some articles about this.

Too much of anything is not good- and nowadays they stick soy too many places.

All these "healthy" soy products are super duper processed - which takes away lots of the health benefits of soy

The healthy way to consume soy is the original east asian way - fermented (ie toffu, tempe) and not too much!

I said other. I can't remember too many details offhand, but I remember comparing the soy cheese to low-fat dairy cheese and it coming off worse in the saturated fat department and things like that. So, maybe plain tofu is healthy, I haven't looked at its nutrition facts, but the fake cheese hasn't impressed me too much. The only real benefit is that it's pareve.

No, I do not think soy is healthy.
Soy disrupts hormone balance.

I spoke to a pediatric endocrinologist. She said that there is no evidence that this is true. She gives her kids soy.

Every parent needs to make decisions they feel are right for their family.
Listen, I couldn't stay away from soy if I wanted to. It's in every item in the store.
But I don't have to buy straight up tofu, Tofutti, soybean oil, margarine, soy milk, etc. And I can try to make as many things at home as possible.

What's the difference between soy and tofu.

Is soy tofu or tufo soy? Now I'm confused.

The stuff you buy in the plastic package in the dairy section it comes swimming in water.

Is this unhealthy?

I thought it's so heathy I put soy milk in my recipes so ra mom would rice milk be healthier say in a kugel?

Amother cuz I feel stupid that I don't know more.
