I have a chocolate cake recipe that I alternate between making cake and cupcakes out of.

But then it's cupcakes - not muffins.

I sometimes do the opposite - instead of making tons of muffins, I bake a "muffin cake" - a quadrupled muffin recipe in a cake pan.

Cake recipes and Cupcake recipes are interchangeable.
(They typically have more sugar and fat in them).

Muffins and Quick-Bread recipes are interchangeable.
(These typically have less sugar and fat in them).

Thank you, Mishie. I worded my question wrong, obviously.

Could you use any cake recipe and bake in mufin tins?

I sometimes turn cake recipes into muffins by cutting down significantly on the sugar.

I use the Spice Carrot Cake recipe in the Lubavitch cookbook for muffins - but I make a combo of carrot & zucchini (plus an occasional sweet potato if it's lying around!) and use less than half the sugar since it's now meant to be a healthy snack or breakfast instead of dessert. I also use whole wheat flour.
