Looking to buy a keyboard

We are looking to purchase a keyboard and we would like some recommendations. Which brands are considered good?

It would be primarily used by someone who knows the basics of playing and is looking to become more advanced. Also, we do not want to spend more than $500, including the stand and seat.

Does the primary player know how many keys s/he wants? 61? 66? 88? Also, does s/he plan to use it mostly as a piano, or is important to get lots of different voices (instrument sounds) to work for variety? Is portability an issue, or will it be mostly in one place? There are lots of different products on the market to meet lots of different needs.

In general, I like Yamaha. But I'm going out tonight with DS to look at a used Korg for his birthday.

We also have a Yamaha, which seems to have good value and popular opinions. In our case it's for children learning piano at school and we don't have a space for piano at home. One thing though--if it's meant as something to supplement/played instead of piano, you need to make sure the keyboard has DYNAMICS function. (I.e. difference whether you hit a key soft or hard). Not many models have this.
