I have two bags of nuts in their shells (one walnuts and one hazelnuts) from two years ago...are they still ok to eat? How about baking or cooking with them?

we just keep wiping them off and putting them back in the cabinet....
(I'm tempted to post anonymously, but I'll be brave;)
TIA

Nuts tend to get wormy when sitting around for an extended amount of time. For this reason, I usually keep nuts in the freezer.

So if hypothetically I had a few pounds of ground nuts from last Pesach,in double zipper bags, in my freezer should they be ok?

yup, I do that every year. I put the leftover ground nuts (sealed packages -- I've never tried it with started packages), potato starch, and matzah meal in two ziplock freezer bags in the back of my freezer and save it for the next year. I've never had any problem.

Ground nuts kept in your freezer for a year should be ok. I wouldn't keep them longer than that because they'll develop that freezer taste. Whole nuts kept at room temp for two years are most likely rancid. Not necessarily a health hazard, but the taste will range from "off" to "awful".

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.
