I am quite overweight. Throughout the years have tried several diets. I am determined now to lose weight and stick to a plan. I am considering the South Beach Diet. Were you successful on it? How much weight did you lose on it? How long were you on the diet and are you still following it?

I was on it a few years back. I lost about 18 lbs. But I couldn't stick to it long term. I always felt deprived, and eventually I just binged. I don't think it's a diet you can be on for very long. Just my two cents. Right now I'm on Weight Watchers. I've been on for 7 months, lost over 25 lbs. and feel like I can stay on it forever.

Our diet is similar to the SBD, but we started to teeter totter until we started tracking calories. A low carb diet is excellent. But if you are not careful you can still over or under eat, and that sets you up for failure. We were under-eating at first, and now that we have favorite low carb foods, it's easy to overeat.

I lost about 15 pounds on it, which was ten pounds less than I would have liked. However, I did not feel deprived on the diet, and I still follow it partially.
