With or without the yud?

We'll be making aliyah soon, so also very interested to hear how people in Israel tend to spell it.

I know that when there are nekudos (eg in Tehillim, Tanach etc.) there isn't a yud and when reading from something where there are no nekudos, there is a yud. Because we, as adults, don't write with nekudos we thought that the correct spelling would be with a yud, but then we realized that when kids learn to write, they're taught to write with nekudos, in which case it would look strange to have a yud in her name. Would she have to spell her name two different ways? Clearly I'm very confused!!!

What's the correct spelling?? (And PLEASE don't tell me that either way is fine!!)

Correct way: without.
Way that Israelis will often spell it: with.

I am curious why you say this, Israemom. Without the yud, it could read Tahala or Tahela etc.. Where do you see it correctly without a yud? I tried google and it all came up WITH the yud.

In Tanach it's without a yud. But Israelis always add a yud or a vav, because they write Ivrit without nekudot.

In a BY in Israel, she would explain that her name is spelled in Tanach without a yud and that is the correct way. And people would realize that she is right.

Pretty sure it's technically without.a yud but you should spell it with one these days.

Isn't Agnon's Tehillah sans yud? But no one would get it now.

In general Israelis spell names that are Hebrew words in a malei manner, even though most words in Tanach are spelled chaser.

All the Tehillas I know here in Israel have a yud.
I agree with Tamiri, without the yud there would be confusion as to what to call her, especially if she's in a place where there are all sorts of 'different'/new/exotic names.

Someone else asked the same question about the name Rina. Everyone that I know in Israel spells Tehilla and Rina with a yud, except for one friend of mine whose husband insisted on spelling it the Tanach way.

My friend Tehila spells without a yud and always tells mothers who name their babies Tehila to spell with bc everyone misspells her name (she even needed her kesuba fixed...)
