I was away from Thurs-Monday, and gave my kids to friends/family members.
I'd like to give a thank you gift, but to whom?
Dh says buy s/thing for the mother.
I heard of buying for the kid who is the same age as mine.
I don't care which of us is correct, but I want to do the right thing.
So- when you give out your kids, whom do you buy the gift for? If it's for the mother- what do I buy?
I'd like to head out soon, so any advice/ideas is much appreciated!

The mother hosted your child, and took care of dc, therefore I think you should give to mother. Something useful or that she will appreciate, spend on a sliding scale for length of stay, or maybe just a nice Shabbat platter whole family can enjoy.
If dc is good friends with kid, dc can get a small token to say thanks as well.

Your DH is right. If you wanted to give a gift for the kids you should have sent a new toy/game when you dropped off your kids. Now get the mom something.

I agree I just hosted DS friend overnight- DS had a blast but it was hard work for me! I would be so grateful if they sent a bouquet for shabbos, fruit platter or something of the like

ok I will get s/thing for the mothers then. Since I'm back already, I can't send a platter for shabbos, so any other ideas?

you can send a little something for each of them ...
but I would agree the kid present should have been sent with your kid so they have something new & fun to do while staying over ...
the thank-you for parents would come when you pick child up ... it could be anything from bubble bath to chocolates to a coupon to go out for dinner ...

You can still give them something for this coming Shabbos. It doesn't have to be for the time when your kids were there. Include a nice note.
Hope you had a good trip!

I would probably buy a book or game for the kids and some chocolate or a nice bubble bath/hand cream for the mom after all she was the one who watched the kids but some moms really appreciate something to occupy their kids.

The mother, not the child, is the hostess. the mother, not the child, is doing the work and has the responsibility. The mother, not the child, is the one who did you the favor of looking after your kid. The gift goes to the mom.
