I'm too scared to try a custard recipe for my doughnuts, it looks too hard to get right. Can I substitute some instant vanilla pudding (box of vanilla pudding mix, follow instructions on back)?
Thanks

Something I tried and worked was take a topping, whip it up and add instant vanilla pudding. Didn't use it for doughnuts though. Used it for something else that called for custard.

whip, vanilla pudding a 2 eggs will give your 'custard' a better consistency. If you are willing to use raw eggs of course.

it's the eggs that make custard cooking difficult ... but at least they are cooked there
