Is it really a problem like they describe in the check up supplement to use a blanket for a baby?

Can you be more specific about what you are asking for those of us who did not read it? I don't recall anything about blankets. Do you mean about in the crib?

If you are asking if it is a problem to put a blanket in the crib with the baby the answer is yes. The American academy of pediatrics recommends putting nothing but the baby, meaning no blankness or crib bumpers, in the crib with a tightly fitted mattress to decrease the risk of SIDS and accidental suffocation. What you can use instead is a blanket sleeper like the halo sleep sack. Some hospitals are giving those out now to new moms.
If you are asking about something else, you might want to describe for those of us who did not read it.
