DS (6) suffered terribly today from canker sores. What can I do for him? He hardly ate. He can barely open his mouth. I gave him Advil this morn and again before bed. I made him a fresh chicken soup, which he was able to sip with a straw. He was in SUCH pain. What can I do for him for tomorrow? What kind of snacks might he be able to tolerate for school tomorrow? Thanks for any advice.

avoid anything acidic. your pharmacy should have some kind of numbing medicine to put on it. encourage your son to keep food and drinks on the other side of the mouth if possible. get him some straws to drink through.

Are you sure it's canker sores, or might it be hand foot and mouth disease? If its the latter, it is highly contagious and you should not send him to school.
Whatever the sores are, he should avoid anything hot, acidic, or spicy. Its most important to stay hydrated. Refuah shelaima!
