posting amother because I haven't really told people in real life yet.
we are iyH moving to a coop in cedarhurst in the next few months, assuming we are approved by the coop board and the mortgage goes through smoothly.
we are kinda moving blindly, in the sense that although we know 2 families there, we really don't have friends or family in the community. we have relatives in far rockaway, queens, eastern LI and brooklyn though, so cedarhurst was a great location in relation to our friends and family, and are jobs. after looking into it and finding this great place, it was kindof a no brainer! normally I wouldn't 'move blindly' but I do feel like it's a big enough community that if we are outgoing enough, we will meet people.
we are so excited. would love to hear from imamothers where they send for preschool, where they go to shul, some info about women's programs, and the best way for me to make friends (other than randomly introducing myself to strangers). I'm coming from a neighborhood WITHOUT an eruv, so im really looking forward to having the opportunity to really socialize on shabbos and make new friends.
anyone with any info or ideas or suggestions, please post here!!
thinking of sending to the JCC preschool since gan chamesh is already filled, but if there are other options I don't know about, please let me know! thanks
also, is there daycare somewhere in the area? what is the cost? thinking ahead a little bit

the JCC is VERY expensive as far as preschools and unless you are a working mom and need working hours I don't recommend it.
there are sooo many backyard preschools (some legal some not) also gan eden (MUCH cheaper than jcc) my suggestions. join the Five towns shuls group on yahoo also the five towns jewish community group will list all shurim etc happening around the community and join the far rockaway mom connection on facebook (there are many cedarhurst mams there) introduce yourself its a great place to ask about shurim play groups etc.
people are nice and don't bite. cedarhurst park is a great way to meet others. especially on shabbos.
if you need any help or want any more info feel free to ask

OP Here
we are moving to the white house coops IYH on central avenue, right near the chabad. I guess so far I have nothing to compare JCC with in terms of price, because I didn't know there were other options, and it's definitely cheaper than my nanny that I have now. ($1600 a month) I am a working mom in manhattan, so I'll be commuting so either I need half a day and a babysitter after, or a program that I could keep him there till around 5 (would rather not though, because he will only be 2 and I can't imagine him out for such a long day in the beginning. what are the other options and where are they? how much are they and what are the hours? I only know of gan chamesh and the JCC, both are a 5 minute walk from our building.

I would do jcc. they also have day care and extended hours. I don't know anything about their day care for babies, but I know the program starting 2 - I send my kids there and liked it. you can do early drop off and late pick up.
another day care I have heard of people being happy in is executive baby, I think in woodmere.

There are many many many half day programs in the area (9-2) if that's what you are looking for the Jcc is 7,000 for the year. Many other places run between 4-5,000 for the year for the same hours.
We sent to the Jcc and were happy with the care I am just letting you know there are other options. Join the groups I listed above and ask about groups and people will start listing them for you.
