dear ladies, I would like to hear your opinion Smile

my ds is almost two years old (he is 91 cm and weighs 14 kg - so he is a bit above average).
he has diarrhea for the past 4 weeks and this winter he had many colds/infections.
we went lactose free, fat reduced, reduced roughages (hardly any veggies/fruits ) for the past week and nothing changed. he still has soft bm between 3 and 7 times per day.

he eats currently rice, potatoes, bread, bananas and carrots. no proteins. he would eat everything if I let him.

do you think we should go gluten free?
I am not experienced , dh and I dont have allergies, so we really dont know. I claled the pediatrician and got an appointment for next week.

btw. he has NO PAIN, NO GAS, APPETITE IS FINE, general mood is great.

do you have an idea what we should do in the meantime until we see the doc?

Make an appointment with a pediatric GI. I am going through exactly the same thing with my DS who just turned two. He hasn't gained weight since his 18 month checkup Sad and eats a ton of healthy food. He's also off dairy. So my ped told me to take him to a pediatric GI who will test him for celiac etc.

good luck!

Gluten free can't hurt, do a short trial and see if anything seems to be improving. Definitely see the dr regardless. RS!

In case dr wants to run tests, including an endoscope to test for celiacs, do not go gluten free yet.

However, if he is gaining weight despite the frequent poops, then while there is probably something going on in his gut, it is probably not true celiacs.

Was he on antibiotics at all this year?

Did you try increasing INsoluble fiber...different from soluble fiber. Google it.

they dont sell gluten free bread where I live.
his diet consists of only rice potaotes bananas and carrots - which seems very unbalanced (he craves normal food Sad ) can is erve the potatoes with lets say tomatosauce ...?

or shall I give him plain chicken or an egg???

tomorrow I could make some potatosoup with dille (but without flour, milk, soupmix...I dont even know how this will taste??? )

ideas??? I NEVER had to concoder these things before b´´H.

thank you

ps. where we live we cant just make an apointment at an pediatric GI. the normal pediatrician has to send you there. (also to all other specialists like allegologisis etc.)

Are you doing any of this with a doctor?

When I went off milk my doctor told me I had to do it for at least 2 weeks.

And yes, if your child needs to be tested for celiac then he should not be off gluten.

I'd go to a pediatric GI and see what he says. Its always better to work along with a dr. He doesn't seem to have a very balanced diet at all. Protien is a very important part of a childs diet.

no we dont do this with a doc. I clled his pediatrician a week ago, he gave us an appointment for next tuesday. till then I shall keep him off allergenes (he mentioned to begin with no lactose, and then go off gluten to see if it changes anything). well we went off milk, sugar, fats etc. for several days, now a week has pssed and nothing has changed so today we went off gluten (but I made him a nice brakfast with chicken, rice and cattots). he doesnt seem to have any pain b´´H.
canrt wait to see the doc on tuesday.

thank you

Unless you see a direct effect with fats, I would forget about that. Keep him off dairy and gluten and he should have plenty to eat. Btw, GF bread is often pretty empty nutrition wise. You can make your own with GF oat flour if it's available to you, or simply stick to GF carbs. There are enough that he shouldn't feel hungry, and he shouldn't be missing out on a balanced diet.
