A NEW charedi primary school will open in Manchester in September.

Toras Chesed will be based in Prestwich or Broughton Park and will cater for pupils who cannot gain entry to Yesoiday Hatorah (formerly Prestwich Jewish Day School) which tends to be oversubscribed and has a tough dress code not acceptable to all parents.

A member of the Toras Chesed steering committee is Rabbi Yehuda Brodie, administrator of Manchester Beth Din and a former Yesoiday Hatorah governor.

He said this week that the school had "moved the goalposts to the right".

Yesoiday Hatorah mothers are not allowed on the school premises or to collect their children wearing fashionable sheitels or long or mid-calf skirts and dresses.

Rabbi Brodie said that Toras Chesed will have rigid dress codes, but parents will be able to dress fashionably whilst modestly. Ninety children apply each year for Yesoiday Hatorah's 65 places.

Also behind the new school are Dov Olsberg, Dovid Noach Olsberg and Shloime Leitner.

It is understood that initially the school will comprise a mixed kindergarten and separate reception classes for boys and girls.

It is expected to be private but eventually to become voluntary aided.

The steering committee do not accept televisions in pupils' homes or unrestricted use of the internet

If they can't wear long or mid-calf skirts, what should they be wearing? Short skirts?

Just what I was thinking. And how are they defining "fashionable" sheitlach?

They wrote that wrong it is long or short skirts that mothers cannot wear and all skirts need to BE mid calf.

Fashionable shaitels are very long ones they can only be shoulder length.

Were did you get this article from was it the Jewish Telegraph?
