When Your Doctor is a Muslim: Medical Terrorism Comes to America

By Debbie Schlussel

Sometimes--so many times--diversity is not what it's cracked up to be.

Just ask Joseph Applebaum. Well, you could ask him. But you won't get an answer. He's dead. And he's dead because he was a Jew, and his doctor is a Muslim and grad of "Ayman Al-Zawahiri" Medical School.

But Applebaum wasn't denied treatment for being a Jew in Egypt. Or elsewhere in the Muslim world. It happened right on U.S. soil. In Chicago.

As Muslim doctors continue to flood into the country under lax immigration laws, hospitals around the country have acquired their fair share of them. Many hospitals in the Detroit area are now dominated by Muslim doctors and have been for some time.

But even in hospitals where they do not predominate, Muslim doctors are starting to demonstrate behavior toward non-Muslim patients that is beyond alarming.

Joe Applebaum was admitted to Rush North Shore Medical Center, a major hospital in Chicago. He was stricken with an acute (or distended) abdomen--a swelling of the stomach that is easily diagnosed and treated. But it was never treated by anyone at the hospital. For 12 hours, Joe Applebaum was left alone--left to die, which he did the next day.

A Jewish man, he was identified as a Jew on the front page of his medical chart. The chief resident doctor assigned to treat Mr. Applebaum, Osama Ahmed Ibrahim, MD, sure noticed the religious notation on Applebaum's chart. And it appears that this is why he never once checked or examined this emergency patient, Mr. Applebaum, and left him to die. When another doctor at the hospital finally examined Mr. Applebaum--not his assigned doctor, Dr. Ibrahim, he told Applebaum's son, Michael, to say good-bye to his father because he was about to die.

Dr. Ibrahim, is a Muslim from Birmingham, England--a hotbed of Islamic radicalism and terror planning. It is breeding ground for anti-Semitic hate. He is a graduate of Ain Shams University Medical School in Egypt. This extremist school is also the alma mater of Al-Qaeda mastermind and number two, Dr. Ayman Al-Zawahiri. Zawahiri's father--a Muslim Brotherhood enthusiast--also taught at the University.

Other Ain Shams grads and faculty members include:

* late HAMAS leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin; * Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammed Mahdi Akef;

* LAX terrorist shooter Hesham Mohamed Hedayet;

* Extremist Canadian Imam, Aly Hindy; and

* Co-leader of Yemen's extremist Al-Islah Party, Abdul Majeed Al-Zindani.

Why did Dr. Ibrahim neglect a patient who came in with an easily treatable condition and leave him to die, 12 hours later? It appears it can only be because he did not want to treat a Jewish patient and let him live. There can be no other reason.

Mr. Applebaum's son, Michael, is a medical doctor and an attorney. While he was waiting for Dr. Ibrahim to see his father, he called Dr. Ibrahim and alerted him to the growingly severe condition his father was in and that his father was suffering from an acute abdomen. Dr. Ibrahim claimed he examined Mr. Applebaum. But that was a lie. He'd never seen him.

And he essentially murdered him by denying treatment. It's a case of extreme negligence and medical malpractice for the apparent purpose of anti-Semitic murder.

Joseph Applebaum's son Michael is now suing Dr. Ibrahim, the hospital--Rush North Shore Medical Center, and others involved in his father's murder. The case is filed in Illinois, and he is looking for a good attorney to pursue the case he has filed. If you are interested or can help, please contact him at the website he set up to document this ongoing tragedy.

This isn't the only case where a Muslim doctor deliberately let his Jewish patient die, it is just the first that we know of. And it likely won't be the last.

Muslim doctors--especially those from foreign medical schools deep in the world of anti-Semitic, anti-American hate; but many from here, too--have backgrounds that are incompatible with the basic level of care that is required and expected in America. Sadly, no-one is vetting them out of our healthcare system. And no-one will.

But we know that there are many doctors who've been at the forefront of taking lives--not saving them--in the name of the "Religion of Peace":

* Dr. Ayman Al-Zawahiri--Al-Qaeda mastermind and number two man, reportedly a surgeon and/or psychiatrist; * Dr. Mohammad Rabi Al-Zawahiri--Ayman's father and a Muslim Brotherhood enthusiast, pharmacologist and professor at Ain Shams Medical School;

* Dr. "Abu Hafiza"--Al-Qaeda master planner who was the brains and commander of the Moroccan cell that provided logistics for the 9/11 attacks, and he recruited Qaeda insurgents for battles in Fallujah, Moroccan psychiatrist;

* Dr. Abdel Aziz Al-Rantisi--Late HAMAS leader, pediatrician;

* Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahar--HAMAS co-founder and leader, surgeon and lecturer at the Islamic University in Gaza;

* Dr. Fathi Abd Al-Aziz Shiqaqi--Late founder of Islamic Jihad and active in Fatah, physician.

And there are other issues, such as infectious disease. We are no seeing cases in Britain in which some Muslim doctors refuse to wash their hands with alcohol-based disinfectant, per the Muslim prohibition on alcohol consumption.

In New Jersey, Dr. Ahmed Rashed, a Muslim Arab resident, severed and stole the hand of a cadaver as a gift for a stripper. Such little respect for life from a religion now very much participating in a profession that takes an oath to do no harm and to preserve patient's lives. Not only did he get a slap on the hand--no jail time and, likely, no criminal record--but he currently has a job practicing medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in New York. The real Maimonides--a legendary, brilliant Jewish doctor, rabbi, and religious scholar--is turning over in his grave.

Perhaps, Dr. Applebaum's suit against Rush North Shore Medical Center will make hospitals think twice before they hire Muslim doctors inclined to practice Medical terrorism against their patients. Today, the victim is a Jew, solely because he is Jewish. But tomorrow, it will be a Christian, solely because he/she is a Christian. Or some other non-Muslim victim, solely because he/she is a non-Muslim victim.

Can we afford to have doctors in America whose allegiance to their patients is far less than their allegiance to an extreme observance of a religion of hate? If they cannot and will not tender care, they should not be licensed to practice medicine in the United States.

Like I said, Maimonides is turning over in his grave. Joseph Applebaum, *Zichrono LiVrachah--Blessed Be His Memory.

shock shock shock

Woah..... how sick.... I have had Muslim doctors, b'h all nice...

Quote:

Is it common to ask for this info in America? In France it is unheard of in hospitals... I did have one doc who classified his patients according to race (he considered Jewish a race), but it was the only one.

Strange thing is - here in Israel there are LOTS of Arab doctors.

This story seems unbelievable.

Are you saying it is unbelievable because you find it hard to believe or because you find it very easy to believe and absolutely shocking?

I find it very difficult NOT to believe, given the number of Arab doctors and the carelessness at hospitals! I have had 3 blood samples messed up in hospitals here in Israel with Arabs on staff at the labs. Coincidence?

Perhaps the reason he didn't treat the patient is bc he is Jewish, or perhaps its another (all too common case) of medical negligence that has nothing to do with the doctor or patient's race/religion.

The evidence that this was racially motivated seems circumstancial to me. Not to say it couldn't have been the case, but there could also be a host of other reasons why the patinet didn't get treated: hospital overcrowding, a nurse mixing up charts, the doctor was exhuasted and was simply confused, even the doctor's negligence for non-racial reasons...

B'Kitzur, I think there's much more we need to know, much more NON-circumstancial evidence we need, before we call this man guilty of murder! That's a VERY serious charge, and even all the more serious when we say he murdered his patient bc he was a Jew!

Yeah I also wouldn't be so quick to believe this story.
Since when is someone's religion written on their medical records in the USA?

He could have been acting out of anti-semitism. It may have said on his chart that he kept Kosher or he was Jewish, be wary of shellfish derived drugs etc. etc. I don't know.
And that is the point; we just don't know either way. While it does make a difference in the end why, no matter what his actions were, from the information that I have, malefeseant...The man was neglected and not given necessary treatment and he died. He was left by a number of medical personnel, not all necessarily Muslim.

Now could the doctor have left him die deliberately? Yes. Then he would be guilty of deliberate murder and should be prosecuted of 1rst degree murder or whatever.

But that is something for the court of law to prove.

Unfortunately bad, really bad horrible take yourself to someone else or just pray doctors exist everywhere. Also, very good, hard working, dedicated, caring doctors can make really really really bad mistakes.

All the original piece could do is stir up trouble. I think she would have been more prudent to watch the case and see how it was developing. If there was evidence (stronger than Jew written on his forms) that he was left to die deliberately, than she should have spoken out.

Malpractice insurance is at its highest peak due to so many malpractice suits all over the country. I believe there is neglect here, and a case for malpractice, but I don't see where they'll be able to pin the Muslim/Jew part here.
I've used a Muslim doctor that ended up being the most brilliant guy and the right shliach for us. I also use an obstetrician that's Muslim and is absolutely amazing and devoted to us. Fact is mistakes do happen in hospitals and doctor do err. It's very unfortunate that this guy died due to neglect. I hope he'll win his malpractice case , but I hope this won't stir more antisemitism due to the accusation of racism here.

If Moslem leaders have stated, repeatedly, death to Jews/Israel/the US, and after the WTC/Pentagon etc. massacre, and numerous other attacks (Britain etc.) no Moslems condemned their fellow Moslems, why would you give an Arab/Moslem the benefit of the doubt concerning your very life?

Is a Jew allowed to be mechallel shabbos for a nonJew whose life is in danger? According to the sefer Shomer Shabbos, it seems that this is not an easy question.

Ergo, the issue of religious tensions in the world of medicine, is not as clear cut as it might seem.

who is the author of Shomer Shabbos?

as far as I know, as a general rule, a Jew cannot be mechalel Shabbos for a non-Jew

however, if a chilul Hashem may be involved, it's a shaila, for example, if Hatzala gets a call on Shabbos and the person makes it clear they are not Jewish

this shaila is paskened because Hatzala members have to know what to do

ditto for Jewish doctors - their rav has to guide them - what if they're interns/residents - can they be on duty on Shabbos? respond to a beeper? what if it's not an emergency

I take that column with a truckload of salt.

For starters:

1. The actual medical information in the column is almost non-existant. "Distended abdomen" is not a "condition", it is a symptom that may be present with a number of conditions. There is NO information provided that would allow anyone to determine what the underlying condition was, let alone whether it was "easily treatable".

2. The article makes a stunning leap in logic by concluding that Mr. Applebaum was the victim of anti-semitic murder simply due to the fact that he was untreated for 12 hours. Long wait times, unfortunately, are common in many ERs. I'd be interested in knowing what conditions were like in the hospital that night.

3. In most ERs, initial prioritization is done by a triage nurse. After that, patients names are written on a board, and crossed off as they are seen. In a large Chicago hospital, it wouldn't be one doctor running the ER - there would be a team consisting of nurses, ER doctors, the chief of ER, specialists on call, etc. If a rogue doctor was deliberately avoiding a patient, it would become obvious to all.

4. There is no real information provided about the actual doctor at all, other than the university he attended. If someone was crazy enough to actually kill a patient, you'd expect that there would be some clues in his life - his affliations, his family life, etc. Doctors know that deaths in hospital are investigated by the coroner and by internal hospital committees, and that they are also subject to malpractice suits and professional discipline. Problems in care would be easily detected in an ER setting. If someone intended to put their entire livelihood on the line, there would be signs.

5. Obviously, immigration officials should check anyone coming into the country, and hospital should check the credentials and references of any of its staff. Beyond that, however, we should be VERY careful with the idea of screenings based upon religion. It wasn't so long ago that Jews were excluded from medical schools and shut out of residency positions.

I reread the article, and more information appears odd - incomplete or incorrect.

- the author refers the Mr. Applebaum as being "admitted" to hospital, but also says that he was an emergency patient. Patients who are in the ER haven't been admitted yet.

- if the doctor was a resident, there had to have been a supervising doctor.

- why would Mr. Applebaum's son have "called" Dr. Ibrahim? If he was with his father in the ER, why wouldn't he have walked up to the triage desk?

- was the son actually at the hospital? If so, wouldn't he have been by his father's side, and known whether or not his father had been seen? As a doctor himself, wouldn't he have immediately notified the ER staff when his father was getting worse?

The fact that the son is still looking for a lawyer is telling - Chicago does not lack malpractice lawyers willing to take on worthy case.

I'm a bit surprised that the author would make such serious accusations without thoroughly investigating the facts.
