Ode to Homework

An ode to homework, my very best friend;
Its accomplishments just don’t seem to end.
After sitting still the whole day in school,
There’s no time to play, because that’s the rule.
Instead we have to sit and learn
For a little freedom my children yearn.
We study reading and spelling and math,
Chumash and Navi and making a graph.
The baby is crying for attention,
But we must finish or you’ll get detention.
I have to get supper on the table,
But to finish this homework you are not able.
Everyone needs baths and to get to sleep;
Time to lie down and begin counting sheep.
But how will you finish writing this paper
On evaporation and water vapor?
Everyone needs help all at once,
And I’m sitting here just like a dunce.
I can’t do Chumash and math together,
And all this homework is taking forever!
And so I write the teachers a letter
That this homework simply must get better.
Since they want to accommodate for sure,
They do me a favor and send even more!
