A few seconds into a recently discovered, rare film clip of the first Knessiah Gedolah in 1923 in Vienna, a rabbi with a long, white beard appears.

“That’s my great-grandfather, with the beard,” exclaims an excited Eva Schwartz, a 97-year-old resident of Wiggins Place, as she watches a video of the four minute, 51-second film on a large screen in a multipurpose room of the assisted living community on the campus of Menorah Park Center for Senior Living in Beachwood.

It’s true: Schwartz’s great-grandfather was Rabbi Avraham Tzvi Perlmutter, who was chief rabbi of Warsaw, Poland, at the time of the convention. He’s seen shaking hands and conversing with several men in the silent, black-and-white video.

“I saw him once, when I was a little girl,” Schwartz recalled. “I remember the beard.”

oh well - this is from a different take ... an elderly woman watching it and seeing her great-grandfather - so it's not just about the chofetz chaim ... for her
