So far I got my dh a sweater, winter hat, wallet, tie and a desk organizer. Got really good deals so didn't spend crazy amount of money. All with receipt so he can always exchange.

Have you ever considered the radical move of asking dh what he wants? He might be a wiseguy and say "a sportscar"--in which case you can buy him a Matchbox toy--but he might surprise you and say something normal and totally doable.

But I don't get it--what's up with the Chanuka gifts? I was brought up that we give Chanuka gelt to kids and yeshiva students, ostensibly to help them pay to learn Torah even though we expect them to spend it on themselves--and that gifts that are not Chanuka gelt are chukas akum taken straight from the Xmas-gift madness and something that frum people absolutely don't do. So what happened? Why are otherwise frum people giving non-Chanuka gelt gifts, and especially a gift every night, which was never a Jewish minhag and comes right from the Twelve Days of Xmas (in which my true love gave to me twelve useless tchochkies, eleven pounds of clutter, ten things for Goodwill, nine toys to recycle, eight breakable gimcracks, seven pricey shmattahs, six "hostess" gifts, five cheap doodads, four fancy whatsits, three whatchamacallems, two ugly works of "art" and one whole lot of junk I don't need including a partridge in a pear tree)?

I think it's a nice excuse to give dh stuff he doesn't really need but will surely use and be thankful for.

It's not a must, but I do enjoy giving gifts Smile and it's always exciting receiving!! I can ask him, but I feel that takes away from the excitement... (also if he does mention something he wants then I'll feel stressed over getting it) Anyway, I'll keep on searching & thanks for the ideas!

How about a personalized travel tie rack ( it folds up so easy to transport when traveling, fits in suitcase, doesn't ruin ties.) My sis in law bought one for my bro in law before he went to yeshiva. If you're interested, I can find out where she got it. What I wanted to get for my husband is a photo thermos (check out Shutterfly) with pictures of us from the past year. Hubby said he'd rather I not spend the money... Check out personalization.com for nice ideas, if you wanna spend a little more, check out things remembered.
