What do you do when you don't have money for rent for the month?

If you need help this month then what happens next month? Have a Rav speak to your dh about finding a job. You can also bring your dh to a therapist to talk him into finding a job. But know your rights as a tenant. Your landlord first has to serve you with papers before he can evict you.

He is self employed and had a really slow month.
A rav is a good idea. A bit awkward but I guess it's a start.

I heard there is a program for homeless - if you can't pay your rent and you can be evicted that would be like homeless. Isn't there a HUD program in lakewood

I know it's a little late for this but just in case you haven't learned this already, anyone self-employed must have a savings cushion for those slow times. A larger savings cushion than would usually be recommended for people with more predictable jobs.
Also, when budgeting, don't look at the money you have in hand - look at the average of what you expect to make over a year's time. That way you'll be spending less even when you have more, and then there will be more left over for the months when you have less.
