Brown 1 lb. ground beef and saute' 1 chopped onion and 1 green pepper in oil. Drain off extra fat. Simmer beef, onion, green pepper, and the following ing. for 20 min.
1 t. oregano
1 t. basil
1 bay leaf
1 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper
1/4 t. garlic salt
1/3 c. tomato sauce
3 T. vinegar
Remove bay leaf. While this simmers make 8 servings instant mashed potatoes. In 8x8 pan spread 1/2 potatoes, add beef mixture and top with remaining potatoes, sprinkle with paprika. Bake at 250 for 1/2 hour.
Serves 4
You can easily double this for a 9x13.
This is a very tasty recipe!

Even easier - brown meat, add marinara sauce. Put in a greased pan. Make mashed potatoes. Put them on top & baked uncovered.

Just an FYI - it's spelled shepherd's pie.

It's our family favorite!

Yum ! Not made shepherd's pie in ages!

Saute onions, mushrooms, peppers, any veg you like really, cut up small.
Add meat.
Add canned tomatoes and a little water, herbs, salt and pepper.
Cook 1 hour.

Put meat mixture into casserole dish, top with mashed potato.

Place in hot oven until potatoes crisp up.

I make this from leftovers. I save uneaten meatballs or meatsauce in a freezer container. Uneaten leftover veggies from fleishig meals go in there too. When the container is full I defrost it, dump it in a mashed potato crust, and make it into shepherd's pie.

You can do the same with leftover chicken and turkey and veggies, baked in a pie shell with some gravy for an easy pot pie dinner.

Talk about stretching a dollar!!! : )

I just saute some onions (reserve some for the mashed potatoes), add some ground beef, once it's cooked I mix it with eggs and assorted spices.
Make the layer of mashed potatoes with instant mashed potatoes and add some sauteed onions, egg, garlic salt, and margarine. Sprinkle some corn flake crumbs on top. Spread the layer of beef in a pan with the mashed potatoes on top and bake at 350 till mashed potatoes set.

CHECK THE EGGS AND MAKE SURE THE GROUND BEEF AND ALL OTHER INGREDIENTS ARE KOSHER. PUT THE PIE INTO A KOSHER OVEN (PREFERABLY FLEISHIG) AND SERVE WITH FLEISHIG UTENSILS.

I made this for supper tonight and it was a big hit. I took parts of all the recipes shared here and the result was delicious, if I do say so myself.

Nobody adds a layer of veggies? Above the meat and below the mashed potatoes I add steamed veggies (squash, carrots, pea, eggplant, whatever is on hand).

I always thought shepherds pie had corn in the mid. Now I can make this without having to run to the store tomorrow!
