No. They had a brief "season" a few years ago, but are very dated now.

Everyone's wearing them where I live (in Brooklyn).
They are used as a slipper/casual shoe-not as a regular outdoor shoe.

This is incorrect.
A few seasons ago they were indeed trendy and popular, whereas now there are other styles that are more popular (slip on sneakers style shoes for one), But they are hardly dated. Especially for environment minded consumers (since toms give shoes to poor people and has many vegan products). So while I wouldn't call them the latest trend, you definitely can't be considered outdated for wearing them.

I can't like this post enough. Perhaps it's because I live OOT on the left coast and folks (where I live) could care less about fashion trends.

The Soludos espadrilles are the newer "thing". I did buy myself a new pair of toms. The open front shoes are this seasons latest and I find them extremely comfortable.

Wow, all these styles completely slipped me by, and I live in the center of Brooklyn.
Oblivion is bliss!

In order to wear open toes you need to buy sheer toe stockings, not reinforced toes that have a darker brown tinge

I think it looks frumpy (not sure what "clowny" means). But I never wear hosiery with sandals or open-toe shoes. I realize others do for hashkafic reasons.

I think they're still tacky. Reminds me of the let's-put-a-black-skirt-under-the-short-dress look.

Toms are my favorite shoes in the world. I've owned 6 pairs. I wear them frequently and I live in NY - whether or not they're in style, I don't care. I go with what I like and with what's comfortable and so should you.
