to all those who dislike sugar--don't read!

Hershey's "Perfectly Chocolate" chocolate icing (the pareve version)

1 stic (1.5 cup) margarine, 2/3 cup Hershey's pareve baking cocoa, 3 cups powdered sugar, 1/3 cup of non-dairy creamer (never tried soy),
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Melt margarine, stir in cocoa.
Alternately add powdered sugar and nondairy creamer (recommend Mocha Mix or Rich's) while beating on med. speed to get that creamy consistency. Add more nondairy creamer if you need. Stir in vanilla.

Makes about 2 cups of icing. It is DELICIOUS! It's just so obviously sweet etc that I only make it once or twice a year as a special treat!

BUt your kids may look like this after they eat it shock because of the sugar content!

oh but keep the recipes coming...I'd love to have a white icing recipe too. (also one that you can add food coloring to for decorating if anyone has one...) thanks!

The Wilton recipe:

4 c. icing sugar
1 c. shortening (actually, their real recipe is 1/2 c. shortening, 1/2 c. butter)
2 tsp. water (real recipe is milk...I use soy milk if I have it)
1 tsp. vanilla

I usually use only 3 c. icing sugar so I don't have to thin it down for covering a cake, but it does need more than 3 c. if you're using it for decorating.

look up a buttercream icing recipe. it's white, fattening, sugary, and absolutely delicious. oh, and good for decorating too.

http://www.wilton.com/recipes/.....m.cfm

you can try this one, though I don't know if it's very good. I haven't done cake decorating in a while.

confectioners sugar

now you can't really put water in those recipes ... they don't mix properly ...

use the crisco ... this way margerine taste doesn't over power

1/3 cup riches parve milk
1/2 cup crisco
2/3 cup cocoa
3 cups confectioner's sugar
1 tsp vanilla

now just pop in mixer and whip ... consistency needs to be smooth enough to spread without being too thick and stuck - if need be add a drop more parve milk at a time

now for white ... subtract the cocoa ... and add more sugar again for consistency ... or add food coloring for decorating ...

you can double or triple the recipe and split it up in small bowls to make several colors too ...

enjoy ... have FUN !!!

Really? I've been doing this for years (since I was 7 or so...over 20 years) and until I came to Israel 5 years ago I ALWAYS used water. I STILL mostly use water; soy milk is a texture option, not a mixing option. It works great for me.
