We are looking to leave brooklyn and settle in either area. Dh has job options in both places so commuting to city is not a factor. How would the general cost of living housing tuition etc compare.

Passaic housing will be cheaper, though property taxes will be higher than FR, not sure how they compare to Nassau County. General cost of living is lower in Passaic, because it's a simpler lifestyle than 5T.

They are very different lifestyles and communities, by the way.
Perhaps go for a visit, a shabbos, see the schools etc. So you can get an accurate feel for the place, see where you'd fit in better.

Hi OP, was wondering if you found an answer to your question. We're also considering 5towns vs Passaic/Clifton. My husband would have to work in NYC so we're open to either one. Have you compared the cost of living? So far housing seems significantly more in 5 towns. Can anyone chime in about cost of housing, tuition....or general cost of living?

I think I’m the op of this post - it’s a few years old tho. I’ll find out if the colors match after I post. The job in Passaic didn’t come through in the end so there was really no decision to make. We live in inwood now and are extremely happy. It’s a very nice crowd here. Keeping up with the Cohen’s is minimal. My oldest kid is 6 so I can’t say what’s gonna happen as they get older with wealthier classmates...
