People really do have the custom of not using sour things like vinegar, lemon juice, etc.

I have never heard of lemon juice being a problem. Vinegar, yes, and it is usually substituted with lemon juice in tishrei.

I might be wrong about lemon juice, I thought it was anything sour or bitter.

Oh, I had a friend who asked the rov all right. She was told no vinegar, no mustard, etc. My mashia says she dressed the salad with just oil and no lemon. I suppose it's nmore of a minhag than an actual halacha......but there are ppl who don't use ketchup as it has vinegar in the ingredints.

You should also ask if it's just for RH or if it extends to Hoshana Raba.

and amother, show your face! what are you afraid of !!!!!

Anyway, does anyone have a recipe for sweet and sour chicken? Just forget I said Rosh Hashanah. I'll make it for a shabbos, not in tishrei, to satisfy any halachik problems.

I cut chicken in bite size pieces
coat in flour
fry till browned

1 cup ketchup
1 cup brown sugar
some water
1 garlic cube
apricot jam, not sure how much
then I add a few drops of honey

let it simmer, then add chicken.
