MANY Jewish women are called Mary (most of the French Miriam go by Marie, and Miriam is common!). My own mam is a Marie LOL

I must say I have seen Fatima on Judeo Arabic ladies. Did you know Rambam's wife was Jamila??

Mark is also typically used for Mordechai, for centuries... John/Jean for Yochanan or Yoni and Matthew/Matthieu for Matityahu also common...

LOL

Yenta I dislike, Yentl is very cute.

I would never use:
- most "sad story" names: Dina, Tamar, Dvorah Lea
- names I don't find beautiful
- names that don't "speak" to me (from very different origins, like a Judeo Arabic name).
LOL

Ok, culture clash here
LOL

These names are uncommon in the US (for Jews)

No Cm, not afraid of you, just don't want to be targeted by you. Don't want to be the target of your derision.

My alta bubbe (actually alter zeide's mother) was Mary - Miriam.

I don't see it's that offensive why people would say they wouldn't use Genendel or whatever. If I was Genendel I'd think "hey you just can't handle the heat so leave the kitchen" and proudly tell me tht I'm Genendel. Or neny for short.

I don't think I'd ever use this name but I do like Shprintza.

And having a Devorah Leah I think it's pretty amazing to name a daughter after someone with as much mesiras nefesh as the REbbetzin Devorah Leah did.

And in other news, I find Ruchel's hashkafa interesting and I often learn something new from her. Although perhaps I wouldn't do well living in her com (can't stand denim!)

ruh-neh would be the closest. For man (René) like for woman (Renée), although some would pronounce Renée with a longer sound in the end.
