Whaaateveeerrrrr. This word must be at least once in every sentence. What does it mean? I mean, I know what it means literally, but what do people think I'll substitute instead of this -------- word?

I had a conversation with one of my sons rebbis and he practically said basically every other word. My ds talks like that too, but from an adult??!!

Yo'ma, you really started an awesome thread! Who knew we had words we hated?

Like, you know, because, like, basically, we just hear these words, and don't even know how aggressively we hate them!

Thanks for the thread!

In conversation I mostly don't like words that are constantly repeated. Get a thesaurus!! But seeing that triggered word seep into imamother just At wits end

And it became a self fulfilling prophecy. The more people used it, the more things "triggered" them!

People say inappropriate things all the time, or just appropriate things to the wrong people and not once did anything "trigger" me.

Like, was I programmed to implode if I heard the word 'gaseous'?

It reminds me of the hypnosis stories, where they embed thoughts into peoples' psyche, and when they hear a certain a "trigger" word, they would cluck like a duck until they were stopped.

"That Sucks" or "this sucks"

Kids use this expression all the time. I've banned it from my house.

I've heard this expression used in cartoons, childrens books and by the teachers themselves!

I enjoyed this thread - thanks all!!!

I hate "I could care less", when clearly the person means "I couldn't possibly care less".

I also don't like the word irrespective.

Actually, that should be banned from everyone's vocabulary! Bad!

"So, apparently..."
Teenage dd starts virtually (see, I didn't say "literally") every sentance with that phrase. I've had enough.
"so, apparently there is a clothing sale tonight..."
"so, apparently we have a science project..."

I despise "hubby", "preggo", "totes", and all other diminutive forms of words that do not lend themselves to cuteness. Avi for toddler named Avraham is appropriate. Totes for totally is not.

Another vote for the misuse and/or overuse of long or rare words (unless there is a precise connotation that you are trying to give over that cannot be expressed with the more concise term).

Irregardless is not a word. Don't use it. Say regardless or irrespective.

I wonder if its an overplayed word in Italy and then they sent it over to us to give us "Agita"

I usually take two tums and then the word is gone! LOL
