I used to think my mother was the Shabbos Queen
She’d stand so regally with Royal grace
And whisper to the king of the universe, Hashem,
In a very special place, behind her covered face

I knew she wasn’t asking him for diamonds,
My noble mother never asked for gold.
She was asking Him to help me study all the Torah ways
And to let her eyes behold, the joy as she grows old

Ohohoh
When I grow up, no matter what life brings
Hashem will give me the strength I need to handle it
And I will walk by the light of a thousand Friday nights
To the tefillos of my mother who
Always had the candles lit

Wow. The last time I thought of that song was so long ago. I now see a beauty in it that I didn't know enough to appreciate in the past.

Thanks for posting the words, lymnok! I thought I knew the words but I really just knew the chorus. So nice to see the rest of the song! I agree, it's so beautiful.

Weren't there more paragraphs to this song:

My mother turns our home into a palace.
Her wisdom and her warmth both make it so.
She bentches licht and I can hear her tender feelings speak
Without any voice or words, but the kiss on my cheek.

The Shabbos candle's light is gentle and so soft.
It smoothes away her worries every week.
And suddenly the troubles of the past week disappear
All our fears and worries cease, In ihis moment of peace.

Ohohoh....

I think of how it hurts my mother when I'm doing wrong,
When I do not let my good side show.
But this week I decide I will make my mother proud
Because how else will she know, that I love her so.

Each Mitzvah I will do will be a diamond
Each smile of mine will be a precious stone
To put into the crown she seems to wear on Friday night.
And when I am fully grown, I'll wear a crown of my own.

Ohohoh

IIRC I don't think this from is the original song. Maybe these words were done by someone else later on?

I googled the song - and this is the first link that came up

www.dosiso.com/cth/ArticleFile.....k.doc

It is a Jewish songbook from Tzivos Hashem, 1998. It is a downloadable 328 page Microsoft Word document and this song is posted on page 206.

Oh Goodness, some of those songs are bringing back some long lost memories!

I always knew it was a long song. Maybe you learned it when you were young so they skipped the second part.

Thanks for posting the rest.
What I posted was only the first part that was part of a medley from our school performance in eighth grade. I knew it was only the first stanza.

All those words, including the additional stanzas are in a cassette we used to have as kids called Yanki Learns About Shabbos (about 30 yrs ago).
I don't know if that's the original.

IIRC this song was composed by Mrs. Yocheved Reich of Lakewood (mother of writer Etka Gittel Schwartz, Scotty on imamother.)
