I would love for my kids to learn how to swim, but I can't afford the $$$.

Does anyone know if NYC offers free or low cost swimming instruction for kids? I recently found out they have recreation centers where membership is free for kids. Never even heard of them before. I feel like there are city sponsored programs for kids, but I don't even know where to start looking!
