DH wants to get our kids an Amazon Fire tablet with Free Time. I am a big believer in avoiding screen time as much as possible plus carefully filtering what the kids watch. Our kids go to yeshiva and Bais Yaakov schools. DH has become a lot less yeshivish and I'm struggling to find the balance with staying true to my values without making issues out of things that aren't so important. But I don't have enough experience with Amazon Fire and Free Time to know what category that is in. Does anyone know more about this and can tell me if I should be worried about this? I hate the idea of the kids having a tablet at all but if the Free Time is really filtered well then maybe it's better they should have this then whatever idea will come up next?

There were definitely things on FreeTime that I wouldn’t want my kids to watch - SpongeBob, Ninja Turtles, some of the documentaries, etc.
But you can also literally go through all the shows in the parental settings and whitelist the shows, games and books you’ll allow. Very time consuming, but I only trust that level of filtering.

My kids have a kids fire u can control what time it turns on and off. It just turns off at the time I set so I don’t even need to fight with kids to turn off it goes off by itself time I set it. I also have the video feature always turned off so they can only play games and books

I got a regular fire and added apps on my own. I felt more in control.

I also found that it was easier to control things using a regular account with parental controls than using free time. The fire has great parental controls.

Why does he want to get it? I have tablets with parental controls and my kids only access what I download. But they get screen time very rarely, since kids benefit from other activities so much more.
