Over the past few days my son is waking up with raised, red dots on his skin that are very itchy. (it seems to be worse in the AM but not sure). It doesn't seem like mosquito bites. I have checked his bed and don't see any of the signs of bedbugs, but I am confused as to what it can be.

Any ideas?

DD had similar over Y"T, it was skin strep and she needed antibiotics. Please go ASAP as the longer you wait the longer it takes for rash to go away.

It doesn't look like any of those things! Maybe a viral rash? He has a cold and cough but no fever bh.

Very possibly viral. Antihistamines should help with the itch.

Coxsackie virus is another illness with "spots" that makes the rounds in the autumn season.
red dots, occasionally blister-like, but not always
on hands/palms, feet, and in the mouth
sometimes fever, not necessarily
extremely itchy, even before the rash appears.

If doctor #1 suspects insect bites, and you do not think they are, please go for a second opinion. A diagnosis is helpful.

definitely call the doctor BEFORE you go to the office, clinic or hospital to let them know you are arriving with a child with an undiagnosed rash.

hope its nothing serious and your child feels better soon!

An added note: We each have to bear in mind how careful we need to be as individuals, and as members of the larger community, not to spread contagious illnesses unwittingly, as they can have serious consequences for people who have weakened immunity, are pregnant, infants, the elderly, etc... and we wouldn't necessarily know if we somehow infected others.
