On the market for a new winter coat, would really like something sleek and slimming, but warm. Is a packable puffer warm enough for the average winter day in brooklyn? I spend about 1/2 hour at a time outside on the average day, walking briskly. I can keep my current much warmer, much bulkier coat for the really cold days.

Generally the packable ones are too thin for Brooklyn winters. For now it would still be OK but there will be a good three months at least (dec.-Feb) where it will be in the 30s and you will need a warmer or bulkier coat.

It's ok if you aren't doing a lot of walking or if you layer a lot.

Not sure it would be warm enough for a 25 minute walk.

I wear a packable puffer in Canada near toronto and Niagara Falls. I actually bought a new one today because down us warm and I prefer the lightness plus I’ve never been cold in one. I bought it big enough that I can wear some layers if need be because I now get colder than I used to.

I have a packable down puffer as a spring jacket. Its definitely not warm enough to use as a winter jacket.
