I got a few recipes for pina colada that call for whip topping. One recipe just says mix in blender, then add rest of ingredients.
My question is-I once had pina colada that was so thick and creamy I loved it. I remember the hostess saying therea whip topping in it-but she didnt say if she whipped it or not.
All the recipes I encounter seem to just combine without whipping.
Anyone have a recipe like this? Do you whip the whip topping up first into more of a cream? If not, does it still come out creamy?
Thanks!
(Im not looking for new recipes with coconut cream. Just a basic pina colada bottle, pineapple juice, whip topping kind of recipe....whip the whip or not?)

Best ever pina coolada is frozen island oasis mix! They serve this on cruises and I’ve found it online and ordered some. They also have many other flavors. Just put in blender w ice. Check all flavors for hechsher

Thank you, I'll look into that one day
For now though im trying to replicate the extra creamy type of pina colada, that I was told had whipped topping in it
Just not sure if I should whip the topping at all or not...

I never do but, as per the recipe, but can imagine it’s fluffier and creamier if you do

I think if you whip it it will be more of an ambrosia-type texture than a pina colada drink.

I thought a pina colada had pineapple juice and rum and coconut milk (and maybe ice?). Never heard of this drink with dairy cream or non-dairy whipped topping. Sounds odd.

You don't whip it, otherwise it will change the texture completely.
Recipe:
2 cups Pina Colada Syrup
1 1/2 cans crushed pineapple
8 cups pineapple juice
1 carton whip.
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl! Chill for a couple of hours and enjoy!
Feel free to double this recipe to make a larger amount.

Every pina colada I have ever had was blended with ice, pineapple, coconut milk and rum. Its really good! Why mess with the original?

What you are referring to is the real thing.
What the poster is talking about is the heimishe version!

This sounds similar to my recipe, but I also put in frozen strawberries.

Do you blend the crushed pineapple?
What size whip cream carton?

Correct. I do happen to enjoy a regular pina colada, but once I had the heimishe version, and it was delicious!

So when you make this, unwhipped-does it come out thin or creamy?

The creamy ones use heavy cream or whip plus cream of coconut. Too much pineapple juice thins it out. Nobody whips the cream or whip. Stiff is not the intended result.

Blend the crushed pineapple for a smoother consistency- especially if you plan to use straws. Use unwhipped topping.

No, I do not blend the crushed pineapple.
The whip carton is the 16 oz one.

Definitely to the creamy side, with a great consistency.
It is neither thin - definitely not like a regular drink say like Apple Juice or water.

If you use canned coconut milk and refrigerate it overnight, I think it will get creamy. Canned coconut milk thickens up a lot in the fridge.
