Hi, I am looking to come to LA in the summer vacation. We are thinking of staying in The Valley. Is there a built up heimish community there? Are there restaurants? How's it location in terms of the attractions and apposed to the pico/la brea area? Thanks in advance

There are shuls and some restaurants there, and it's also closer to Tierra del Sur in Oxnard, considered by many to be the best kosher restaurant in the US. But most of the LA Jewish community, along with most of the kosher restaurants people talk about, are in LA proper, which can be quite a drive, especially during rush hour.

As for attractions, it depends on what you're looking to do, but unless you're looking to explore north of the city (e.g. Santa Barbara), you'll end up driving quite a bit more than if you stay in the city.

There is no heimish community in the Valley, but there is a frum community. No matter where you stay in LA (from Hancock Park to Valley Village to Calabasas) you'll be close enough to drive to restaurants and attractions (within a one hour drive of most).

Thank you very much for the info, it's very useful. Do any of you know a place in la brea/pico or in town area where we could rent for two weeks in the summer with a pool

Check VRBO, or AirBNB (if you're still comfortable using them after they boycotted the West Bank) - there should be plenty of listings.

Lots of good family style restaurants in the valley. Fancier ones are in the city. Valley has best kosher dairy cafes

Yes, hotter, and unpleasant. (LA is unpleasant to me, too, now that I live out of CA. it's very hit, very dry heat.)
Very nice and pleasant in the winter
High 90s in summer

what do you mean by heimish?

If you mean yeshivish and chassidish, the La Brea area is the only one.
I don't know anyone who rents their house with a pool.

Majority of restaurants are in Pico-Robertson area.

During spring and winter, the weather is very pleasant and mild. From around August through October it’s very very hot.

That area is super expensive. You're going to have to give up something in terms of your expectations. You can go to Tarzana, and you'll be within decent driving distance of kosher restaurants, and you will have shuls, but they won't be "heimish". It's an awesome community, but it's Israeli and Persian, mostly. VNMO listings are much more in line of what you're thinking of per night.

They are probably equivalent in terms of temperature, but Miami is humid and LA is dry.
