I’m in San Diego and the particular neighborhood I’m in is somewhat walkable. There are several markets just a few blocks away, 2 shuls nearby, a library. Unfortunately no Jewish schools or restaurants in my area, you need a car to get to those. There are technically parks in the area, but they’re not very nice or safe, so I avoid them. The nice parks to take kids to you need a car.
