We don't have crockpot. Any way to do it on the stove and leave it on the blech overnight?

Yes, but I can't leave my oven on for the whole of Yom Tov.

Can you put your oven on a Shabbat clock, so it turns off/on when you need it?

Possibly, but if anyone has done it on the stove I'd prefer that.

of course you can. It's like making a cholent on the stove.
Make sure it has a lot of liquid (water) so it doesn't burn, very low flame, etc.

Have you actually done it yourself? I'm afraid it'll either dry out or be too wet.

I do it like that. I put oil in the pan and then fill it with potato mixture, meat, and more potato mixture. I cook it on low for a few hours and when the sides are set, I flip it over. I continue to cook it on low until it is done. Before shabbos I put it on the blech on low until we eat it for shabbos lunch.

I do it every pesach
a layer of kugel
then a layer of meat and potatoes and fried onions
and then another layer of kugel on top and add a cup of boiling water to the top
it comes out great

Thanks so much! I wanted to get started so made it in the oven for now but I'll make it on the stove for next Shabbos iy'h.

I'm thinking to keep the tin in a pan of water on the blech overnight. I hope it'll work.

So the meat sits inside the kugel mixture? It's not sitting in water at all?

right the meat sits inside the kugel.
the first time I made it I was nervous but it came out really good
just make sure you make enough kugel

How much kugel is enough?

here is my recipe
its from Bina 2012
the kugel layer is
6 large potatoes
1 onion
4 eggs
1/2 cup oil
1 Tbs. salt

the cholent layer is
3 large potatoes sliced
1 sauteed onion
it says 1 lb beef flanken but I just throw in some chulent cubes.

so you prepare the kugel part and put half of it in the pot
then you place the sliced potatoes on top and the add the sauteed onions and then the meat and put the rest of the kugel on top of the meat.
pour 1 cup of boiling water on top of every thing and cover

the funny thing is that this recipe says its for a crock pot, but for the last 6 years I have made it in a pot and its great. I just noticed that now.
enjoy!!

So, I put my "yapchik" on the stove.
Plenty of kugel in it.
I'm absolutely petrified that I will wind up with a burnt bottom , raw kugel and raw meat and that we won't have food on Shabbos!
